SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL SUPPORT TO INDUSTRY
The MIB-SOLAR Center contains the expertise and equipment to assist the present or incoming activities of private and public bodies in the field of solar energy. In particular, the following services are available at MIB-SOLAR Center:
- design, synthesis and characterization of original and innovative materials
- fabrication of solar cells (up to 1×1 cm2) and modules (up to 20×20 cm2)
- full characterization of photovoltaic devices up to 20×20 cm2 modules (both internal and external production)
The following types of materials and devices are covered.
MIB-SOLAR CENTER OFFERS THE FOLLOWING SERVICES
Materials characterization
- Thickness determination of thin-film samples by means of a profilometer
- Triple Micro-Raman Spectroscopy, deep-UV excitation (technical assistance included)
- Absorption spectrum of dye-sensitized TiO2 photoanodes
- High-resolution mass determination with Dual ESI/TOF - direct injection
- Separation of organic mixtures by HPLC (direct and reversed phase), UV-Vis detector and HRMS with Dual ESI/TOF, also with method development
Device characterization
- Solar cells and mini modules I/V characteristics (current, voltage, maximum power, total efficiency)
- External Quantum Efficiency measurements (EQE or IPCE). Spectral response
- Internal Quantum Efficiency measurements (IQE or APCE). Spectral response
- Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS)
- Anions or cations determination in aqueous solutions by ionic chromatography
- Photocatalytic activity measurement in solution (with products determination by gas or ionic chromatography)
- Photoelectrochemical measurement for water splitting (with products determination by gas or ionic chromatography)
Device fabrication
- Fabrication of DSSC cells <0.20 cm2 for component evaluation (1 dye + 1-5 electrolyte solutions)
- DSSC Logo - custom made image (12 logos - 5×5 cm2)
- TiO2 coating on TCO glass with area 10×10 cm2 using standard or custom made image
- Laser scribing (e.g., for metal cutting or TCO removal)
- Metal coating by evaporation (gold, aluminum, silver), excluding the cost of the metal, also in glove-box
- Conductive oxides (AZO) and molybdenum thin film deposition by sputtering up to 10×10 cm2
