The MIB-SOLAR Research Center and the Department of Materials Science participated in the initiative “Ti presento i Dipartimenti 2025-2026” (Let me Introduce the Departments), promoted by the University Prison Pole of the University of Milan-Bicocca.

The presentation, titled “ENERGIA DAL SOLE” (Energy from the Sun), was held on November 27, 2025, and was curated by Prof. Simona Binetti, Director of MIB-SOLAR, who illustrated the crucial role of science in the ongoing energy revolution. Prof. Binetti explained to the inmates how solar energy represents a concrete and sustainable response to the urgency of climate change and the growing energy demand. The seminar delved into the functionality of solar cells, explaining the mechanism by which materials convert light into electricity. It was highlighted how Materials Science, the protagonist of the electronics revolution, is now central to the energy challenge, driving research towards increasingly efficient and accessible devices (from traditional silicon panels to new materials) for a global rethinking of the planet’s resources.
